A family-run dive bar on the south end of Laguna Beach. A band every night, a dance floor that fills up on weekends, and walls covered in fifty-plus years of stickers, patches, and photos.
A family
bar.
On December 6, 1969, Jeana Harrell and her sons Chuck and Chip bought the Sandpiper and turned it into the bar it is today. The room had already been serving Laguna Beach since 1942, when the family’s uncle opened it as a restaurant.
Chuck still runs it, with his sons Grant and Spencer and his wife Jeannie. Chip passed away in 2018. In December 2019 the bar threw a two-day party for its 50th year under the family, and printed a shirt to match.
What's on
the walls.
Framed Marine Corps patches and military memorabilia. Surfboards, stickers, posters, and flags. Dollar bills people have pinned up over the years. Behind the bar, a photo of Jeana, labeled Mom.
It’s loud on weekends, calmer on weeknights, and it hasn’t been redecorated to look like anything other than what it is.
A band every night.
For a very long time.
Reggae Thursdays with World Anthem Band have been a fixture for more than a decade. Undercover has played the last two weekends of every month for over twelve years. Bands start at 10 PM.
